Trail Arm Band Drill
InstructorDebbie Doniger
Daily Video Tips
This video addresses releasing the trail arm elbow bend and about getting the upper arm in front of our chest. Could you provide some instruction about the downswing that addresses the degree to which the upper arm is lowered from its more elevated postion at the end of the backswing? What would be the target for how much and when to lower it in the downswing? What would be a guide for too much or too little? Too early or too late?
John
Great tip, Debbie. Thank you very much. I was having trouble with my left arm -- I am left-handed-- getting stuck behind me. Thanks again.
I would like to put this tip into my FAVORITES, but I cannot find the blank heart to click on anymore.
It’s a good drill. Thanks for watching
click on the 'epsiode information' tab - the heart will be to the right of the episode title.
Thanks again Debbie. Will work on asap. This will help me since there are times my elbow flies out I've been told. Have a great week!!!
Great- thanks for the support !!
Thanks Debbie, great tip! I am playing in an event today so I’ll incorporating this technique & feel into my practice swing. I’ll let you know how it goes later tonight too. Best, Chuck A.
Thanks for your advice/video instruction tip.
At 1.38 in the video you say "If you are not that kind of player...'
I assume you mean "If you are that kind of player..." here please ?
Ok that does not need to be edited. Sometimes if your right arm can only work for example the right elbow pointing up to the sky, bc of mobility or injuries or whatever the case may be. Then this feel is NOT for that type of player.
I had to replay that too ! I guess we all make mistakes but that needs to be edited.
Hey Mike. No need for editing here. Some golfers simply have their right hand more on top of the club at the start and also simply have to move the right arm differently in the backswing. Almost like a flying right elbow and quite possibly have to have the right elbow more behind them in the downswing. This too is NOT for this person.
Hi Debbie. Thanks for this drill. I've been working on keeping my trail elbow tucked into my abdomen to achieve proper shaft lean at impact. When I do so, the results are fantastic. Unfortunately, I'm only doing it on 1 out of every 3 or 4 swings. My big miss right now is when my torso stops rotating as it returns to address in the downswing and my arms become disconnected and continue rotating through, causing me to hit big hooks with left sidespin in the 2000-3000 rpm range. I'm thinking this might be the perfect drill will help me keep my torso rotating through the downswing more consistently. Do you think it will help?
Yes I totally do. Let me know.
