Understanding Ulnar
InstructorMartin Hall
Daily Video Tips
Hello
Just for clarification for understanding. When addressing the ball my feet should be slightly of the path, AND club head slightly open?
Thank you
Martin, so glad you did this video of "Ulnar" because I always had in my mind, to ensure putter is completely flat on the ground. I am missing on the right most times. Can't wait to try it with raising the heel..great common sense video
I’m a globe on putter. How much difference does this make?
Great tip!
Do you like the putter head to pass the hands ( release the putter like Tiger and Crenshaw) or the handle to lead the putter head like Dave Stockton. Would the ulnar wrist favor one type or both.
Do you put loft on putter.
Thanks, John
You need 2-3 degrees of loft on the putter at impact, how you achieve that can vary.
Now that I understand Ulnar, how can I putt thru the ball as I tend to pull most putts.
Feel that you rock your shoulders on a more vertical plane, an up and down motion.
I noticed you said some great golfers were wrist putters; without naming them. Maybe I should not mention that one of the greatest golfers of all time — Bobby Jones – was a wrist putter! And also did some chipping with just the wrists. Check out some of his videos!
I agree Bobby Jones used his wrists a lot , he was also very skilled.
Will going a bit Ulnar also flatten the putter lie a little bit?
No, if anything I think it would make the lie more upright.
Marin I have done that now for 70 years since I was 4. Great teacher my Mother told me that. My issue is the takeaway. I have difficulty in taking the putter back evenly. It has a tendency to move outward at the takeaway and I have to redirect it back on line coming thru the ball which many times causes other than center of putter hits. Any tips on takaway?
Your Mother taught you well.
A thought for takeaway is to keep upper arms lightly touching chest.
